In the framework of the Project: “Increasing the Capacity of Farmers and Other Stakeholders in Diversification of Rural Activities”, funded by FAO (Food Organization of the United Nations), RASP – Rural Association Support Program, organized on 11 December 2019, at the Hotel “Dushkaj” Koplik, Malesia e Madhe, workshop on: Awareness raising of local stakeholders for diversification of activities in the Malesia e Madhe.
The workshop was organized by RASP in collaboration with VIS Albania and Koplik Municipality and aimed at raising awareness of farmers and rural producers in the area about diversification of farms and products and identifying needs for raising of their capacities in technical aspects as well as the possibility to benefit from EU IPARD funds or support through national agriculture supporting schemes.
The workshop was attended by various local stakeholders such as: Specialists of Extension service Shkodra and Malesia Madhe, representatives of Koplik Municipality, farmers , producers of agricultural and dairy products, fruits, medicinal plants, agro-tourism, etc.
The workshop was also attended by representatives of the FAO/REU, Mrs. Katalin Ludvig and Mrs. Bianka Laskovics, who presented the vision and guaranteed FAO’s continued support for rural development in Albania.
During the discussions at separate roundtables with farmers and producers from different sectors of agriculture, livestock, medicinal / aromatic plants, agro tourism etc. about the possibilities of diversification of rural products and activities, the need for capacity building of farmers and producers was identified. with the quality of products, aspects of marketing as well as meeting the quality criteria and standards required by the market.
Based on the needs identified during the workshop but also through a need assessment process, a capacity development program will be prepared and implemented in coming months.
