Call for idea generation on digital farming opened
The project INCUBATOR FOR DIGITAL FARMING funded by Visegrad Fund, has open the call for Idea generation for those interesting students with agriculture and IT background from Agricultural University of Tirana, Pristina University and UKIM Skopje, to submit their Concept ideas or seed initiative.
Every student or group of students (up to three persons) is invited to present his idea for application of digital technology and solutions in any field of agricultural sector.
Best ideas will be developed with assistance from a specialized team of experts and will follow a competition process. Six students from each university will participate in the process of developing ideas at incubators in Macedonia and later in Budapest

Launching event of BalkanMed INNOVA project
On December 18th, at Mondial Hotel, Tirana it was organized the launching event of the BalkanMed INNOVA Project, a project funded by the European Union in the framework of the program "INTERREG Balkan-Mediterranean 2014-2020".
This project is extended to several Balkan countries and specifically to Greece, Albania, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Bulgaria and Cyprus. The project aims to promote the entrepreneurial mentality, encourage new businesses in applying innovative ideas and contemporary technologies, mainly for small and medium-sized businesses, and foster a more friendly culture towards entrepreneurship and growth of small and medium-sized businesses in four important areas of economy in Balkan countries:
1. Tourism and cultural heritage
3. Communication and information technologies for SMEs
4. Energy and Environment
The Albanian partner RASP, has the task to develop curricula and training programs for the agricultural sector. The project is addressed to all young entrepreneurs who have started or want to start a business in the above areas. The project will organize open courses for everyone, based on an on-line platform. It is expected that 20% of those who will attend on-line courses, will develop their business ideas, and some of them will, with the support of experts, will present a two-year business plan. Business plans will be evaluated by experts and best ideas will be rewarded with grants.
Businesses that will be supported by the project, will serve as good models for many other entrepreneurs who will follow these models and approaches.
This event was attended by various public and private actors. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture rural development and water administration, FAO Office in Albania, Pedagogues from Agricultural University, representatives of governmental organizations and ANRD (Albanian Network for Rural Development), businesses from the sectors covered by the project, as well as students of the master and doctor degree, who are also target groups of the project.
FAO Workshops in Korca, Berat, Shkodra
RASP is currently implementing some activities in the framework of the project “Capacity Development of Agricultural Technology Transfer Centers and Extension Services, for Rural Diversification Projects”, financed by FAO. The main objective of this project is to develop the capacity for rural diversification project preparation and implementation according to EU requirements. In the framework of this project three workshops were conducted.
First workshop "Development of Sustainable Breeding and Farming of Small Ruminant Animals: A Good Opportunity to Increase the Benefits of Livestock Breeders and Improve the Standard of Living in Mountainous Areas" was conducted on 19 September 2013 in Korca Region. It was attended by farmers, extensions, ATTC specialists and other actors of the sector in the region. Workshop aimed to increase the benefits of livestock breeders and improve the standarts of living in these areas. National experts Ms. Lumturie Papa and Mr. Petrit Dobi, together with the international expert Ms. Maite Lasarte presantated modern technologies and possible technologies that can be appropriated for Korca Region.
Second workshop "The Increase of Competitiveness in the Production and Marketing of Olive and Olive Oil Production in the Region of Berat" was held on 10 October 2013 in Berat Region. It was attended by farmers, extensions, ATTC specialists and other actors of the sector in the region. The porpoise of workshop was increased of olive and olive oil quantity and quality production in terms of rural development for the region. National expert Mr. Ferdi Brahushi and Mr. Petrit Dobi together with the international expert Mr. Juan M. Caballero introduced technologies how to increase olive and olive oil production and possible options to increase residents incomes from it's products.
Third workshop "The Increase of Competitiveness in the Production and Marketing of Vegetables in the Region of Shkodra"was conducted on 24 October 2013 in Shkoder Region. It was attended by farmers, extensions, ATTC specialists and other actors of the sector in the region. Workshop aimed increase the quality and quantity of vegetable production. National expert Mr. Frida Carka and Mr. Petrit Dobi together with the international expert Mr. Vladimir Kokarev provided very interesting presentation on marketing, production, rural development that could increase incomes from vegetables production in Shkodra Region.
In each workshop, participants were facilitated by experts to discuss their priorities on equipments and training needs. Workshops were closed by minutes of discussions and conclusions.
FAIR OF AGROTOURISM IN MARGEGAJ
On 14th of September 2013, RASP (Rural Association Support Programme) in cooperation with the Kukes Regional Council and the Commune of Margegaj organized the Fair of Agrotourism in the village of Valbona, in the Commune of Margegaj – Kukes in the framework of the project “FARM-TOUR Development of Agrotourism in Northern Albania and Eastern Montenegro”.
Following the successful history of two previous agrotourism fairs, this was the third in the line organized with the support of project that gave the possibility to local farmers of Margegaj area, and also from Shishtavec, Fierza of the Tropoja region to take part and present their agricultural and farming products, with traditional cooking, handicraft work displaying and other characteristics products related to agrotourism.
The opening ceremony of this activity started with greeting speeches from representatives of the project and representatives of public institutions whom invited participants to visit the fair with promoted traditional products which were displayed packed, labeled and had other elements of marketing and food safety . Varieties of farming products, derivates, medicinal plants, traditional plants, hand craft works and varieties of other characteristic products converted the fair into a colourful and unique event.
An important moment during this activity was delivery of the project equipments from representatives of the project to farmers. In the end of the activity, participants visited the agrotouristic farm of Tahir Hysa, Kol Jubani and Hajredin Selimaj. During the fair, participants had possibilities to exchange their experience, ideas, and problems between farmers coming from different areas of the project.
This event was transmitted in the local media, by serving also as a sensibilization tool for various stakeholders in the field of tourism and agrotourism such as national or local tourism operator, tourism information offices and other structures in the field.
Fair of Agrotourism in Shishtavec
On the 5th of May 2013, RASP (Rural Association Support Programe) in cooperation with the Kukes Regional Council and the Commune of Shishtavec organized the Fair of Agrotourism in the village of Novosej, in the Commune of Shishtavec – Kukes in the framework of the project “FARM-TOUR Development of Agrotourism in Northern Albania and Eastern Montenegro”. This activity was held in the framework of the Day of Shengjergj, a very popular traditional celebration, which is accompanied by a very festive atmosphere of dances, various traditional races and games etc. Local farmers of the Shishtavec area and also from Margegaj, Fierza of the Tropoja region took part in the fair, where they presented their agricultural and farming products, with traditional cooking, handicraft work displaying the characteristics of the area and other products related to agroutourism. The fair of agroutourism aimed at promoting these products and their tradition as well as displaying their packaging, labeling and other elements of marketing and food safety. This presentation serves as sensibilization tool for various stakeholders in the field of tourism and agrotourism such as national or local tourism operator, tourism information offices and other structures in the field. A very positive aspect of the fair was the exchange of experience between farmers coming from different areas of the project.
Several leaders of local government of the Kukes Region took part in this activity such as the leaders of the communes involved in the FARM-TOUR project, representatives of public institutions, of various local organizations, tourism operators and also a great number of local and foreign tourists. This event was broadly transmitted in the national and local media.
